Taking Control
When I was overweight, it
affected every area of my life. There was a lot of discrimination. I felt
like I had to prove myself. When I put food in my mouth, I felt like people
were judging me. When it came to men, I asked myself, "Who in the world
is going to like me?". It was so psychological for me, I felt so bad about
myself. Life was miserable.
My family supported me to
do something about my health. I'd heard about the LAP-BAND surgery a few
years ago and did a lot of research on it and Gastric Bypass. Then I found
a bariatric center and took their free seminar.
I was 230 lbs at the time
of surgery. One year ago, I was a size 20. Now I feel there's nothing
in the world I can't do. I'm a size 10 and weigh
about 148 pounds. I'm exercising and I have more energy. I can't
believe how happy, healthy and well-adjusted I feel one year later. Not
only do I have complete control of my life, but I can help others now because
I'm getting my master's degree in counseling.
The people at the Bariatric
Center are so supportive! I thought to myself, "These people aren't fat!
How can they understand?" But they do. They're tough; they want to see
you succeed. They have the most comprehensive program I could find. They're
up-front with all you need to know before you go into it. It's the best
investment I've ever made in myself. It has given me a new life.
